South Asia Alliance For Poverty Eradication (SAAPE)
7 November 2007

Dear all,

For your information. Condemning the undemocratic and autocratic move by General Parvez Musharraf and the imposition of the state of emergency in Pakistan, more than 200 Human Right activists of Nepal today protested in front of the Pakistan Embassy in Kathmandu from 3:00 – 4:00 pm chanting slogans against the violation of human rights in Pakistan.

Senior human right activists such as Prof. Mathura Shrestha, Prof. Kapil Shrestha and Ms. Shanti Adhikari started the demonstration program by reading out the memorandum ( attached above) which was endorsed by number of Human Right Organisations of Nepal. The memorandum was distributed to all later. Even after chanting the slogans for many minutes, no one from the Embassy came to receive the Memorandum, the activists pasted the memorandum instead at the gate of the Embassy. Other slogans chanted and pasted at the gate of the Embassy are:

Restore Democracy in Pakistan,
Free Asma Jahagir,
Respect Human Rights,
Withdraw State of Emergency in Pakistan
Uphold Human Rights etc.

Also please find the memorandum attached above for your information. We will also be sending you the photographs of demonstration shortly.

In solidarity,
Prajeena Karmacharya
