Dear Friends:

Today, Pakistan is facing perhaps the most severe crisis since 1971. For much of 2007, the country has witnessed an alarming rise in militancy and violence, political deadlock and a persistent challenge to the independence of judiciary. With the imposition of martial law on November 3rd, and subsequent crackdown on civic and political groups, the crises has deepened.

The choice for the nation, and the world is clear. Pakistan either reverts to a status quo that has held this mighty nation back for much of its existence, or we seize the opportunity and join the campaign for full and unreserved democracy and an independent judiciary.

How we respond today will determine Pakistan's future, and, perhaps even its integrity as a nation. Members of the civil society, being increasingly joined by the political forces, are showing us the way. The community in the US needs to rise to the occasion and support those carrying this cause forward. The Pakistani American community is uniquely positioned to shape the public discourse and the policy towards Pakistan. Let's embrace our role and deliver on this responsibility.

I'd like to take the opportunity to introduce to you SupportPakistan.org, an advocacy group formed to mobilize public opinion and shape policy. Please take a few minutes to visit the site. We have made available specific tools and resources you can use to take action.

Please forward this to friends and family.

Thank you,

Dilawar
